At TCO we take our environmental responsibility seriously, here are some of the steps we have taken so far to reduce our carbon footprint and the environmental impact of what we do.
Our team is focussed on producing as little waste as possible, unlike many merchants we do not use large skips and we actually have one very small waste bin! Our aim is to recycle everything.
Glass, metal and plastics are sorted and recycled by Dundee Council.
Excess cardboard and paper is shredded and reused as packing fill in new outgoing shipments.
All timber products we offer for sale are FSC or PEFC certified. So you can be assured they are from legal and well-managed forests. For further information on certification please visit https://www.cheshiremouldings.co.uk/environmental-policy/
Our offices are fitted with Luceco A+ Low consumption LED bulbs.
The office paper we use is FSC certified. We actually use very little paper! The warehouse team uses handheld scanners for order picking and we send sales invoices in PDF e-mail format.
Toilets / Washroom
We use a state of the art Dyson Airblade wash + dry hand dryer that produces up to 79% less CO₂ than other hand dryers. Not only does this save time and money but importantly we now have zero paper towel waste.
Lighting and extractor fans are activated using a motion sensor,as a result power is only on when the toilet is occupied.
The toilet is fitted with an eco dual flush, saving over 10,000 litres of water per year when compared to our previous single flush cistern.
For heating, we invested in a WT 10 wood waste heater which is fully compliant with the clean air act. We source wood waste fuel locally.
We currently operate one electric forklift in the warehouse, electric forklifts are very clean and do not emit harmful gasses.
We are in the process of replacing our petrol and diesel vehicles with electric. So far we have one electric car and charging bay.
We regularly asses all suppliers and delivery partners to check their environmental credentials. We are proud to be working with UPS and DPD as both transport companies have a carbon neutral commitment. You can be satisfied that the goods delivered from TCO will be carbon neutral at no extra cost to you. Last year DPD opened the first all-electric last mile delivery depot in London saving over 45 tonnes of carbon per annum, there are 8 more of these branches in the pipeline.
